What to Expect When You Attend a Catholic Rite of Committal

If you have never attended a Catholic funeral in San Jose, you may not be familiar with the Rites that take place there. The three Rites are the Vigil, the Funeral Liturgy and Final Commendation and Farewell, and the Rite of Committal. The Rite of Committal is the final ceremony of the funeral and marks the moment when the loved ones of the deceased pay their final respects. It happens at the site where the deceased is to be laid to rest, whether this is a cemetery, a tomb, or an interment site. During the Rite, a deacon or priest will bless the site and pray over the body. Then, the remains of the deceased will be interred or buried. A final prayer will be said, and then all present will say the Lord’s Prayer together. If you have any questions about the Rites of a Catholic funeral, please feel free to ask before you attend.
